We ask that all participants arrive 5 MINUTES prior to class. \nMeet Pooja: \nPooja has been training in Kathak for the past 13 years under Gurus Smt. Nirupama Rajendra and Shri T.D. Rajendra from Bangalore\, India. She has had the privilege of performing with Abhinava Dance Company at prestigious platforms such as the Mysore Dasara Festival\, Bangalore International Film Festival\, ZEE5 Awards\, and Alvas NudiSiri\, and has been part of their esteemed productions. \nShe has also trained in Karanas\, a special movement vocabulary of the Natyashastra\, from her Guru Smt. Nirupama. Additionally\, she has attended Kathak workshops conducted by legendary Gurus like Padma Bhushan Kumudini Lakhiaji and Pandit Birju Maharajji\, organized by Abhinava Dance Company. \nAfter moving to the US\, Pooja continues to practice and perform under the guidance of Guru Parul Shah and Guru Smt. Nirmala Madhava (Pampa)\, and collaborates with other dance companies such as NDC and Naatak in the Bay Area. She has given solo recitals in New York\, Seattle\, New Jersey\, Boston\, Bay Area\, Houston\, Chicago\, and Los Angeles. \nRecently\, she premiered her own work at the YUVA Festival 2023 in Houston\, which was featured on Narthaki\, and also presented it as a solo at Yuva Bharati\, California\, where it was very well received. Her collaborative work in Navatman’s Mahabharata (2021) has been selected for film festivals\, and she has served as a panelist for a work-in-progress series by Prayukti Arts\, California.BollyClassical

He participated in his college dance team\, UC Irvine Zamana\, serving as Captain\, where he has learned and performed with a variety of styles from BollyFusion\, Bhangra\, Contemporary\, Hip-Hop\, Garba-Raas\, all the way to SemiClassical. During this time\, he and his team competed all over the country\, lighting up the stage from California to Pennsylvania\, even competing at Bollywood America 2019. After graduating from college\, he moved to Seattle where he has been with Rangeela for the past year\, pursuing his passion for dance through their various platforms. This love for dance continued to grow and ultimately culminated in joining a competitive dance team in college. Ahalya led the University of Pennsylvania’s garba-raas team as choreography chair in her junior year\, and as captain in her senior year. Like most dancers\, she loves choreographing and performing\, but the one thing she loves most is teaching. Her favorite part about garba-raas is the contagious energy\, and how powerful the moves are. She has 4+ years of experience in choreography\, 2+ years of experience teaching\, and has been to several collegiate competitions in both the Raas circuit and Fusion circuit (as a guest dancer on Penn Dhamaka). Ahalya spends much of her free time at dance classes learning other styles like hip-hop\, Bollywood\, and South Indian.

We ask that all participants arrive 5 MINUTES prior to class. \nAbout this Series\nBeginner Belly dance series across 3 weeks. Each week\, the 2 hour class will focus 1 hour on technique and 1 hour on choreo. We’ll work on beginner basics like isolations\, shape explorations\, basic shimmies & arm/body waves. We’ll work on the same choreo throughout the three weeks to progressively build\, drill\, and feel comfortable in the style. We’ll film a fun group video in the final class! \nI’m nerdy about dance and will share class notes\, playlists\, inspo artists etc. after each class for the best learning experience and retention! \nSeries vs drop-ins – Folks can sign up as a series or even drop-in to classes. Strongly recommend the whole series for a progressive learning experience in a new style so we can build on learnings each week. But I’ll be revisiting the full choreo every week (slightly faster) and technique will be new each week\, so it’s drop-in friendly. \n  \nMeet Shilpa\nAn instructor\, performer\, and choreographer based in Seattle whose dance journey spans continents and styles. Trained early at the Shiamak Davar Institute under Shahid Kapoor\, Shilpa rose to prominence after winning regional rounds of Boogie Woogie\, leading her to train in hip-hop with Rohan & Group. She later pursued professional contemporary and modern training under Sumeet Nagdev in Mumbai\, performing with his Student Dance Company for six years while also teaching underprivileged children through Teach For India. After moving to Seattle\, she choreographed and performed in theater productions with Pratidhwani and Cutting Chai Productions\, and continued her training in Cuban styles at La Clave Cubana\, where she has been a principal performer for five years. During the pandemic\, Shilpa expanded into Tribal Fusion Belly Dance under mentors Tishya Kaul\, Dipika Vijay\, Zoe Jakes\, and Sara Lyn\, and performed in Jillina Carlano’s Belly Dance Evolution production of The Wizard of Oz in 2022. Now exploring Afro and continuing to evolve\, Shilpa embraces the diversity of her training as the foundation of her creativity\, artistry\, and passion for sharing dance with every community she touches.

She began her formal training in Bharatanatyam at the age of seven\, building a strong foundation in classical technique and expression.In 2015\, she joined the Mona khan Company in the Bay Area\, California\, where she performed in numerous stage productions and instructed classes across multiple levels\, gaining extensive performance and teaching experience.Through her training and professional journey\, Megha has explored a wide range of styles including jazz\, contemporary\, hip-hop\, waacking\, Kathak\, Bollywood fusion\, and Indian folk forms such as Lavani\, Bhangra\, Garba\, and South Indian Kuthu.Megha began choreographing semi-classical works in 2025\, drawing influence primarily from Bharatanatyam and Kathak.In 2025\, she also formally commenced Kathak training under the guidance of Smt.
